Black Friday Weekend Deals For The Ethical Shopper 2017

November 25, 2017

Hi eco babes,

It’s that time of year again: marketing overload being pumped into our inboxes and social media feeds by companies promoting their Thanksgiving weekend deals for things that we don’t really need. Consumerism is at an all time high between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and that’s why I’m here to offer you some ethical alternatives.

I want to be completely clear on 1 thing: keeping consumption to a minimum is always the #1 best option. I highly discourage buying on impulse – be sure you’re making thoughtful purchases that are 100% necessary. This goes for all year round, but especially on Thanksgiving weekend when so many deals are being thrown our way. It can be like dodging bullets trying to resist temptation to different sales and staying true to our conscious buying habits. Here’s one of my favorite infographics that you can run through next time you’re looking to make a purchase:

And a cute take on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: Ethical Shopping Edition. Reminding us that buying new should be the last resort after exhausting all of the other options first:

Ok so, if you’ve made it this far and have decided that you are still in the market for whatever it is on your list and would like to purchase as thoughtfully as possible, I’ve curated the following list of deals for my readers. I’ll be adding more as the weekend goes on, so check back in, but here are deals from my favorite shops that have been announced thus far:

FASHION – CLOTHING

Reformation // Reformation needs no introduction. Trendy clothing done thoughtfully. All pieces are made from repurposed fabrics and you can see exactly how much water and CO2 the making of each garment saved vs. conventional production. Also, they use all recycled and recyclable packing when they ship out to you – no poly bags. A+, Ref! Forever one of my faves.

Deal // 30% most of the collection. Reduced prices already marked on the website, no code needed!

Time Frame // Now through Monday, Nov 27th.

Groceries Apparel // My absolute go-to for fashion forward organic basics. This is the sustainable, ethically produced line of everyday clothing that you’ve been searching for. Their collection is mostly made out of organic cotton, plus some appearances by other eco textiles like eucalyptus tencel. You can find my curated list of my favorite Groceries pieces here. And you can watch the vlog of my visit to their LA factory here.

Deal // 15% OFF $150 USE ‘BLACK150’, 22% OFF $225 USE ‘BLACK225’, 30% OFF $300 USE ‘BLACK 300’

Miakoda New York // Another one of my all time favorite companies – some of my favorite everyday pieces of clothing that I wear almost on the DAILY belong to Miakoda! (BEST. LEGGINGS. EVER.) All organic materials + produced ethically here in NY + owned by the sweetest vegan babe, Julia, that I’m lucky enough to call my friend! Check out her awesome collection and support a local women owned biz all while adding some kickass flattering basics to your closet that will last a lifetime 🙂

Bead & Reel // My most favorite vegan fashion online shop. I can’t say enough amazing things about Bead & Reel. They are 100% vegan and 100% conscious. This is a site where you can shop without limits, knowing that whatever you set your eyes on will already meet all of your values for what you like to see in your closet as a conscious consumer.

Hoodlamb // VEGAN and SUSTAINABLE winter jackets (mens + womens)!! @hoodlamb‘s line of 100% vegan and eco-friendly jackets made out of sustainable fibers like hemp, organic cotton, and “eco down” made from recycled plastic bottles is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I’ve had my eye on them for a few seasons now and finally got my hands on the “Long Hoodlamb Coat” which I am wearing here.

Every single piece gets a ton of use in my closet and is worth every penny.
